A while back it was announced by Warner Bros. that they were planning to re-release The Wizard of Oz for it’s 75th Anniversary later this year. They revealed plans to release it in digital 3D, and re-release it in a similar box set as the 70th Anniversary collection. The latter set included a Blu-Ray copy (or DVD, depending on the set) with a series of discs, plus a beautiful book, watch, and press book. Though some fans scoffed at the idea of a new set, Warner has promised plenty of new features to entice fans.
Of course there is the new 3D version, but in addition you will receive a map of Oz, a pin collection, a new hard cover book, journal and snow globe (if you order from Amazon you will also receive a special Wicked Witch of the East flash drive). New features included on the disc (in addition to the same features that were included on the past DVD/Blu-Ray releases) include an all new documentary on the film, and the MGM documentary When the Lion Roars.
In addition to the collector’s box set Warner Bros. is releasing The Wizard of Oz in several other formats. There will be a 3D Blu-Ray combo pack, a standard Blu-Ray edition, and also a standard DVD edition. No announcement has been made as to when these sets will be released, but they are all available for pre-order via Amazon.
